“Embrace the glorious mess you are.” “It’s okay to be depressed.” “Depression is a part of who you are.” These are the kind of statements often posted on social media, which make my blood boil.
Please allow me to make it clear here: You and depression are NOT the same thing. If you want to fully recover, you must see depression as a separate entity that is not meant to be in your life. As long as you accept that it is a part of you, a part of your personality, you are in fact holding hands with it and making it your friend. But it is a toxic friend! It’s one that wants you to be miserable for the rest of your life and to see you utterly ruined.
I hear so much that ‘depression is normal’ but how can something that makes you feel like absolute rubbish be normal?! It doesn’t make sense!
So friends, if you start seeing depression as your enemy, you will already be setting yourself on the road to full recovery. Say out loud: “Depression you are NOT a part of me. You are NOT my friend. I don’t want you anymore!”
